Both areas have plenty that appeal to RV campers, from shady meadows, full- and partial hook-ups, restrooms, and showers to picnic tables, fire rings, outdoor grills, and lantern posts. We have stayed in both camping areas and like them both. However, Old Garner is nearer to the main park attractions.
Outdoor lovers will appreciate the tranquil and crystal clear lake, gorgeous limestone hillsides, deep canyons, and the majestic Frio River. When you aren’t kayaking, paddle boarding, tubing, swimming, or fishing, there are 16 miles of scenic trails to hike, bike, and discover wildlife. There’s also a playground and a mini-golf course. Some sites are big rig-friendly, while others only allow trailers and motorhomes 20 feet or less.
RV Top Tip: If you visit during the summer months – beginning of June through mid-August – dances are held on the outdoor pavilion dance floor. When we’ve been there, there has been a jukebox playing for dancing purposes, not a live band.

There is drinking water, a dump station, flush toilets, trash collection, covered picnic areas, grills, a camp store, and an amphitheater. On actual parking sites, you’ll find 60+ spots for motorhomes under 24 feet long and trailers under 20 feet.
RV Top Tip: Big Bend National Park is beautiful and has some amazing and unforgettable hikes, but it is full of wild, untamed land and can be very dangerous — especially during the summer months. Be sure to check all current advisories regarding heat and other conditions in the park before hiking. Also, it’s important to carefully read all posted trail advisories before you begin your hike because some of the trails can be extremely challenging depending on your level of fitness. I can tell you that taking the time to read these advisories has helped us be better prepared for hikes in Big Bend and sometimes made us decide we weren’t up for the hike at that point in time.
